Williamston Discovery and Explorer Elementary Schools believe that the Arts play a vital role in student growth and development. Now in its fifth year, Williamston continues to serve as a focus school district in arts integration with the Kennedy Center Partners in Education (KC-PIE) Initiative. Arts Integration is defined as an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.
This year, Art Now!, generously funded by the Williamston PTSA, features the talents of Liz Wylegala as artist-in-residence. Liz not only brings a fine artist's skills and vision to her students, her time in the classroom allows Arts Educator Beth Post to work closely with classroom teachers to help them use the visual and performing arts as highly effective tools in teaching everything from the sciences to mathematics to social studies. Arts Integration works.
Our students worked hard on the projects presented in the galleries on the left and are very excited to be sharing them with you.
The Williamston Elementary Schools offer many opportunities for students to explore the arts. There are several ways in which students participate in events, some are in their regular classrooms, some are in their art classrooms and others are participated with the entire school. If you have any questions regarding events, please contact Beth Post at PostB@gowcs.net.
Thank you for supporting the Arts in your child's life.
